MEET ANNE & KERRY

Reading has always been important to me. As young parents, both my wife and I read with our children daily. And they each became lifelong readers on their own. One of my fondest memories is looking at the rear view mirror in the car, wherever we would go, and see all 3 of them with a book in their laps. This love of reading, in fact, became a major factor in my choosing Elementary Education for my career – teaching and developing young readers! How natural, then, to seek out owning a bookstore through my retirement years!” – Kerry

Since taking over ownership in 2016, we have provided a welcoming environment for the healthy exchange of ideas, and curated an eclectic selection of books to share.

Though I grew up in Atlanta, I’ve lived in Murphy for over 40 years.  My family and I lived on a small farm on the outskirts of town, where we shared a love of nature and curiosity about everything under the sun.  All of us have always been avid readers, and still enjoy sharing what we’re discovering in the books we read. Owning a small independent bookstore has become a source of new and endless delights for me.” – Anne

The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity.

WE PROUDLY SUPPORT

Charitable Causes

Local Suppliers

Book Clubs

The Curiosity Shop has enjoyed 18 years of success, a rarity among small-town independent bookstores. Anne and Kerry purchased the store in 2016, from Linda Ray, who established it in 1999.

We have worked to gradually increase the number and variety of gifts and products that are Made in the USA, created locally or regionally, or distributed by Fair Trade organizations. And added used – gently read – books, a very popular addition to our selections.

Children are delighted to discover a sunny nook in a corner of the shop, where they’re welcome to sit at a small table and play with Magformers, or read a book, while their parents shop. We encourage everyone to feel at home here, and find something to satisfy their curiosity!
